We may be grassroots, but we’re not just "a small group of concerned citizens" anymore.
Who We Are
Formally incorporated in 2025, Regina Safe Water Advocates Inc. is a nonprofit organization led by a volunteer board of directors guided by science, ethics, and informed public health policy. We are committed to educational, advocacy-based action, pursuing legal advice when necessary, to oppose the addition of hazardous fluoride chemicals to Regina’s public water supply, ensuring it remains safe and clean for generations to come.
Our Story - Founding and Early Efforts
Regina has a long history of opposing water fluoridation. Residents voted against adding fluoride to the city’s water in four separate referendums—1954, 1956, 1965, and 1985—and a similar motion in the 1990s failed.
Our movement began in 2020, when nearly 250 residents contacted City Hall to oppose fluoridation. Concerned citizens came together, forming a community-led group focused on educating the public about the dangers, legal gaps, and ethical issues of water fluoridation—and empowering Regina residents to have a voice in decisions that affect their health.
Despite this, in August 2021, Regina City Council voted 10–1 to add artificial fluoride (Hydrofluorosilicic Acid, or HFSA) to the drinking water as part of the Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant upgrades. The motion—bearing ten councillors’ names before it was even presented—passed with no public consultation and minimal debate, even with medical experts cautioning against it.
In the years that followed, new scientific evidence emerged highlighting fluoride’s neurotoxicity, culminating in a 2024 U.S. federal court ruling that declared water fluoridated at 0.7 mg/L poses an “unreasonable risk” to children’s brain development. In March 2025, a motion to postpone Regina’s fluoridation plans until safety could be proven drew overwhelming public response:
On May 2, 2025, after nearly nine hours of expert testimonials from across North America and citizen presentations highlighting the dangers of fluoridated water, City Council upheld the 2021 decision by a 7–3 vote, and in 2026, plans to begin adding HFSA—a hazardous industrial byproduct classified as toxic by Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Environment and multiple federal regulations.
Why We're Different
We're not politically affiliated and have no corporate interests.
We're motivated by science, law, ethics, and public safety.
We believe every person deserves clean water, informed consent, and bodily autonomy.
Our Mission Moving Forward
We believe Regina’s water should remain clean, safe, and free from toxic additives. Through education campaigns, grassroots advocacy, and legal action, we continue to fight for the right of every Regina resident to access uncontaminated drinking water.
Help Us Keep Regina’s Water Safe
We rely entirely on community support to fund education efforts, outreach, and our legal challenge to keep fluoride out of Regina’s water supply.
Every contribution brings us closer to our goal.
